Jan-Willem received his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Twente, the Netherlands, in 2007. In 2005-2006 he did an internship at the Mobile Research Centre of British Telecommunications in Ipswich (United Kingdom), part of the Wireless Cities project. He obtained his Bachelor degree at the University of Twente with a minor on Economics, Business and Administration. His research interests are in signal processing, information theory, coding theory and principal component analysis.

He worked as a researcher on error correction codes (e.g. Low Density parity Check Codes), and performed research in the area of sensor network optimization. At this moment he is working on a project in the field of spectrum sensing, in collaboration with the Dutch Radio Agency (in Dutch: Agentschap Telecom) and the University of Twente.
