About BTD

The organic gardening association Drienerlo (BTD) was founded in the year 1970. It provides the land and facility to students and staffs of the University of Twente who are interested in organic gardening. Organic gardening means growing flowers and vegetables without any environmental unfriendly chemicals, such as fertilizers and chemical pesticides. The association has a gardening complex with about one hundred garden units available, 22 square meter each. The gardening complex can be found behind the faculty club in the campus of UT. If you are curious or interested, just come and have a look.

Members of the BTD can rent one or several garden units, in which they can grow plants. There are various gardening tool available for all the BTD members. They are stored in the tool house next to the gardening complex. In addition, experienced gardening coaches are available based on appointments for the new members.

In addition, there is a public cold bed for seedling of plants, such as leek, kale, lettuce and zucchini. When the seedlings are strong enough, they can be transplant to the garden units for further development.

All members of BTD can harvest delicious and fresh vegetables from a common garden. Are you interested in BTD membership? Click here.

The BTD organizes various activates for all the members. For example, lectures on organic growing, dynamic or compost formation, flower arrangements and pruning.

Furthermore, each year at least one excursion is organized.  For instance, we have visited the quarry at Winterswijk, the gardens of castle Twickel, waste processing site in Hengelo and the botanical gardens and greenhouses in Wageningen in the past. Visiting to other interesting sites will be organized in future. Check the photo album!

Finally, each year there is a Garden festival for all BTD members, mostly a BBQ is organized. Check the photo album!

Information on upcoming activities is available on the agenda.
