Biography

Dr.ir. Marten van Sinderen holds a MSc degree in Electrical Engineering and a PhD degree (1995) in Computer Science (University of Twente, The Netherlands). Since 1983 he held several positions in the University of Twente, and contributed to research and education in the areas of communication protocols, network interconnection, middleware, application protocols, software services, business processes, and enterprise interoperability. In 1988 he was appointed assistant professor of the faculty of Computer Science. From 1997 to 2003 he was senior researcher of the Centre of Telematics and Information Technology. Since 2003 he is associate professor of the faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science. His current research interest is in design methods and architectures for networked information systems and smart services, particularly using middleware technology, context-awareness, and semantic interoperability. Considered design paradigms comprise Service Oriented Architecture, Model Driven Architecture, and Event Driven Architecture.

He was general chair of several conferences, including IDMS 2000, PROMS 2001, EDOC 2005 and EUNICE 2007, and program committee chair of, among others, EDOC 2004, ICE-B since 2007, CLOSER 2011-2012, SensorNets 2012-2014, and ICSOFT since 2012. He was the steering committee chair of the IEEE International EDOC Enterprise Computing Conference between 2010 and 2014, and a member of the steering committees of IDMS/PROMS, MIPS, and EDOC.

He participated in several European projects, including MODA-TEL (Model Driven Architecture for Telecommunications Systems Development and Operations, IST 37785), E-NEXT (Emerging Networking Experiments and Technologies, IST 506869), AMIGO (Ambient Intelligence for the Networked Home Environment, IST 004182), and SPICE (Service Platform for Innovative Communication Environment, IST 027617). He was project manager of the Dutch Freeband A-MUSE project (BSIK 03025) on model-driven service design for context-aware mobile applications, and of the Dutch GenCom U-Care project (IGC0816) on user-tailorable healthcare services for the home environment. He was invited reviewer for the European Union of C-ARCTIC (Concurrent Environment and Architecture for Tele-collaboration Integrated in the Company, IST 1999-20087) and served in several national research review boards.

He is editorial board member of the Enterprise Information Systems journal, published by Taylor & Francis, and associate editor of the Journal of Industrial Information Integration, published by Elsevier. Previously he was editorial board member of the Service Oriented Computing and Application journal, published by Springer. He is also a member of the executive board of the IFIP Working Group 5.8 on Enterprise Interoperability.

He published over 200 peer-reviewed research papers, and is co-author of the book Architectural Design – Conception and Specification of Interactive Systems (Springer, 2016). His current Google Scholar measured h-index is 36 and his i10-index is 115.
